The four-month Ambulatory Joint Commission Family Feud Tournament came to an end this week with the crowning of Dermatology as its champion.
"We're really proud of our team," said Tira Brown, a medical assistant who was part of the Dermatology group that bested Radiology in the final round. "We prepared for it and are glad we were able to represent our department."
The 16-team tournament began in September, matching Ambulatory clinical areas against each other to test BWHers' Joint Commission knowledge.
The road to victory didn't come easily for Dermatology, though. After a back-and-forth game on Dec. 11, it all came down to a final question about what is included in employees' HR records, with triple points awarded for a correct answer.
"Overall, a great time was had by all," said Ryan Lafond, project specialist in Ambulatory Services, who played the part of game show host. "Staff rallied behind their teams and brushed up on their Joint Commission knowledge in the process."
In addition to Dermatology and Radiology, the other departments that made it to the "final four" round preceding the finals were Emergency Medicine and Psychiatry.
The Dermatology team will receive $500 to be put toward a departmental team-building activity, plus bragging rights.
The Joint Commission will visit BWH sometime between now and February 2013 for the hospital's unannounced accreditation survey. The Family Feud tournament may be over, but you can still brush up on compliance information by visiting BWH's Continual Readiness page.
